Family Camp Out

Todd and I had been wanting to go on a camp out during the summer, but it just never happened. So finally during Labor Day weekend we made arrangements and headed out. After some research we decided we'd head up to Mesa Falls. We'd been there before and we knew there was a little hike we could take the next day. So on Friday, after work, we headed on up.

With it being the holiday weekend we were a little worried we might not find a camping spot. But to our surprise we found one of the last spots at the camp ground we picked. We ended up being by a little creek. It was pretty nice! After we walked around a little we started unpacking. Everett LOVED being out and being able to explore. He was so cute and into everything!

After getting the tent up we started putting all our stuff inside. It was then we realized we forgot one essential item. Our air mattress. Yes I know you can camp without an air mattress, but man you do not sleep as well. I thought Todd was getting it while he thought I was getting. So needless to say we had a little miss-communication. And we suffered:) Once everything was set up we started getting our camp fired ready. Todd went out and gathered some wood and then started away. We were able to enjoy the nice heat from the fire, some delicious dough boys, all the while listening to some good old Harry Potter! (Todd and I have been listening to the books on tapes so we thought what better way to get some read!)

Friday night ended up being freezing cold. We even let Everett sleep with us cause it was way too cold. So with the cold, a nice hard bed, and a boy that likes to move around like crazy when sleeping, we didn't get the best nights rest! Saturday morning we had some breakfast took everything down and headed to Mesa Falls to try out the nature hike there.

Starting the hike

We almost didn't make it past the beginning of the hike. Just a few minutes in we heard a big rustling in the woods. When we turned and looked we saw a black bear! It had just jumped out of the tree and started running further back into the woods. Needless to say I was a little freaked out!! But we kept going. I was on the look out for more bears, but thankfully no more were seen.

The hike we were taking was suppose to take us closed to the lower falls. We thought it would take us right next to us like the upper falls, but to our disappointment it didn't. You still got pretty close, but didn't have the best view of it. Although the view of everything else was breathtaking.

We had a really good time. Although we've learned to always make sure we have our air mattress and to go camping more during the middle of the summer rather then towards the end!
