The Joys of Being Sick

So I've come to the conclusion that being sick is not fun. I think most would agree, but now being sick AND pregnant really is not fun.

Since we've gotten back from Denver I came down with something. Woke up with my throat hurting Wednesday, but didn't really think anything of it. Come Thursday I have no energy. I couldn't sleep at all the night before. My throat hurts worse and ontop of that I'm starting to cough. Friday morning I wake up...I sound like a man. I honestly have no clue how I made it through work. All I wanted to do was sleep. On my way home I start noticing all the cotton blowing around. Oh great...the allergies are going to start. This was about the same time my allergies started last year here. Well, with all the luck I have my eye starts watering real bad before I even get home. That night it was puffy, itchy, and watering ALL night long. So on top of this fabulous cold I already have, my allergies have started. To go along with my new husky voice and nasty cough, I now have a nose that will not stop running, sneezing, and an eye that likes to randomly tighten, start twitching and water constantly. Oh Joy!

The best part is that whenever I wake up in the middle of the night I usually have to go use the restroom no matter what. On a normal night it's usually like once, sometimes I can sleep the whole night. But the past couple nights I think I wake up every couple hours cause I can't breathe, then I start coughing, and then I realize I can't fall back to sleep unless I use the restroom:) And since the baby is getting bigger and moving tons more he also lets me now that I need to get up. Luckily last night I had a movie we rented to keep me entertained from 1-3 in the morning.

I do have to say that I have an amazing husband that let me sleep and rest this morning, which honestly helped tons, while he was doing the laundry, the dishes, and organizing the spare room. When I normally get sick I keep myself going and don't stop, but this time around my body really needed the rest.

Needless to say, our weekend hasn't been the most enjoyable. Just relaxing and getting things done around the apartment. We were able to go and pick up a bookcase for the baby room. Todd's already got it up and stuff on it already. Eventually we'll get some baskets to store Everett's things. We have less than 3 months! Times flyin by;)

Denver Trip

Well, we made it to Denver and back. It was a really nice weekend that I think was much needed by the both of us. Unfortunately I pretty much didn't take any pictures. Just a couple of Todd:)

We ended up getting on the road around 2 on Friday and due to a little "detour", and a few extra stops because of my growing belly, we made it to Todd's parent's around 1 in the morning. I will admit that the detour was very nice and a pretty drive, until we got out of the mountains and into Wyoming.

Saturday Debbie, Todd's mom, through us a baby shower. It was so nice to see some family and friends that we haven't been able to see for so long. We received many new onesies, diapers, and our first piece of baby furniture, a swing. Todd even set the swing up yesterday. It feels as though our extra room is now being taken over! During the shower, Todd and his dad worked on the pond in the back yard. Cleaning it and moving things around. Later that night we were able to go out with his brother and parents and enjoy a nice dinner at Johnny Carinos.

On Memorial Day, all the guys got together and went fishing, while the girls were able to go shopping. That afternoon we all hung out and had a barbque that his mom put together. Later that night we were able to go hang out with Todd's good friend Brandon and his family and of course watch the Nuggets.

Tuesday our short trip came to an end and we headed back home. The drive was pretty boring until once again we got into the moutains. We got hit by a few rain showers, but other than that it was a pretty good drive. Now we're just settling back in and getting into our every day routine!

Vacation

Todd and I are going on a little vacation. We leave tomorrow for Denver, CO to spend some time with his family. We haven't been back for almost a year and a half. I can't believe we've been in Idaho for that long! Anyway, we're pretty excited. It'll be a nice trip. Hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day Weekend!

24 Weeks

Well, not much has changed. My stomach is gradually getting bigger. Some days I feel much bigger than others. Especially in that picture. Mr. Everett is becoming quite the kicker, or puncher. We've been able to feel him quite often. Some evenings Todd is able to put his hand on my stomach and the boy moves like crazy for 10 minutes. The kicks are much more stronger than they've been. I've been able to sit on the couch and watch my stomach move a couple times.

We went in for a check up on Monday. The nurse said he had a great heart rate...141. I'm measuring right where I'm suppose to be. He's sitting real low. The nurse kept trying to hear his heart beat up by my belly button, but couldn't ever get a good read. Finally I told her where I always feel him and sure enough once she moved to the bottom of my stomach she got a much better read. I thought he would have started to move up by now, but I guess he likes where he is. I wish he would move. Anytime I wear pants that are remotely snug, he's constantly kicking. Especially when I'm sitting at work. So I finally went and bought a pair of maternity pants, and I think he appreciates my investment.

All in all everything's goin pretty well. I feel great. I'm starting to get short of breath more often. Todd and I went walking yesterday and came home and my feet were bright red and swollen. Not too bad though. I'm just hoping the swelling doesn't get too bad over the summer. Only 3 1/2 months left! Time to me is flying by!

Presents for Everett

So I think our kid is already getting pretty spoiled! This week he has already gotten two packages. My friend Sarah sent a package with a whole bunch of cute clothes. It was pretty exciting opening. Then later in the week my mom sent a package with more clothes! She found some of the cutest stuff.

I never really thought there was a whole lot of options for cute boy clothes, but I was proved wrong this week. I've usually seen these little socks for girls that look like ballerina slippers. Well, my mom found some that look like tennis shoes! They even have the shoe laces on them. They're so cute.

Then she went and made him some cute little beanies for when he's born.

And of course Brutus (our dog) couldn't be left out. He got Everett a pretty cute outfit too. I love how the shoes have a little dog on them.

Yesterday my friend Jessica, and I, went to a craft store here in town and I found some stuff to make him a blanket. It's not a big blanket. More like a little lovey or something. I got a little frustrated with it, but got it done.

So needless to say his closet is slowly growing. It's still kinda weird, but sooo exciting. I told Todd the other day that I wish he was here now so I could start dressing him up. He just gave me a look. I guess I wont be able to play dress up with our boy when Todd's around. He's gonna be one cute kid though!

For the Love of Baking

I'm making a public commitment. I've been saying I was going to do something for awhile now, but have yet to do it. So I figure if I let everyone know what I'm trying to do I'll stick with it a little bit better.

I graduated with my AS in Baking and Pastry Arts almost 2 years. May 19, 2007 to be exact. Since then I haven't been able to do much with it. When I first went out looking for jobs I either had too much experience, or not enough. After a few months of job searching I finally found a job working at a bakery, but it wasn't anything that allowed me to expand on my skills and learn more. I pretty much just baked cookies and muffins all day.

When we moved to Idaho there was nothing. I already had experience working in a hotel and didn't want to go back. So hotels were out of the question. It's a hard schedule especially being married. I decided I'd try the local grocery stores, but once again I knew too much. I found one place, but I would only be paid minimum wage and I knew that wouldn't pay the bills. So i decided to look into other options and ended up finding the job I'm at now.

For over a year now I've been telling myself I'm going to get back into my books and bake more often. I usually bake our bread for the week, but I've even started slacking on that recently. I'm getting to the point where I'm not putting myself into baking. I'm just going through the motions. For the first time, a few weeks ago, I told Todd I hated baking. Just wanted to quit. It was the whole cookie problem. Flat once again. So he came in and talked with me. I can't remember what he said, but it made me go to my books instead of just mopping around and being frustrated. Reading everything started bringing stuff back.

So I've decided to make a commitment to myself that I'm going to start baking something new every week. I asked Todd if he didn't mind and he gladly gave me the go ahead. My plan is to post whatever I make, whether it turns out or not, and talk about it. So be looking for a post. If I don't post anything by Sunday May 10, let me know. I want feedback, and of course encouragement :).
