Our sweet little girl finally made her debut. Jacquelyn came June 7, 2011 at 6:59 pm. She was 6 lbs. 15oz and 18 1/4in. long. Once she made the decision to come she came pretty fast!
We went to our 40 week appointment on Monday the 6th and made the decision to be induced Wednesday, the 8th, morning. I was a little disappointed cause I just wanted her to come on her own, but she still had a few days. Tuesday morning the doctor's office called and said the hospital had a time mix up and was wondering if I could be induced that day instead. I was so not ready and I knew Todd had a big test he needed to take so we ended up making the appointment for Thursday instead. The rest of the morning we all got ready for the day, then Todd went off to school. As I was getting ready some weird stuff started happening. Around 9:30am I thought my water started leaking cause right after I started getting contractions. They were just coming right after another and then slowed down to about 6 minutes apart. I called my mom and sister and Sarah told me I was definitely in labor. So I called to let Todd know and then we headed to the doctor to make sure. Once we got there I was having contractions, but nothing else had happened. Dr. Lovell told me I might as well be in labor and that I could either head home for awhile or go straight to the hospital and they'd break my water to get things moving. We decided to go walk around a bit to see if that would help. Later we contemplated going home, but I did not want a reoccurance of what happened the Monday before. I had been having contractions for a day and they got pretty close but the minute I went to take a nap they stopped. I was not going through that again! So at about 1:00 pm we headed up to hospital.
Once I got dressed and in bed I noticed the contractions started slowing down. I was getting so frustrated. But as I laid there they gradually came back and they were coming back stronger. Our doctor was suppose to come in and break my water, but at 3:00pm they told me Dr. Meredith was going to wait till he was done at the office and to start me on pitocin just to keep the contractions coming. So they gradually started me on the lowest dosage and every hour uped it little more. At 5:30pm Dr. Meredith finally made it and broke my water. I started the day dilated to a 3 and when he came in I was at a 5. He told me if I wanted an epidural that I needed to tell them once my contractions became pretty painful. Well that didn't take long. Within 5-10 minutes I was asking! They had gotten pretty strong before, but once the water broke holy cow! I decided I just wanted it to be peaceful like Everett's birth and I wanted an epidural. Since it was close to the shift change it took awhile for the guy to get there. But in the mean time other complications started to occur. Jacquelyn's heart rate dropped really low. They were having me move around to try and get it up. So we had to put the epidural off until Meredith gave the nurse the ok. In the meantime the contractions were becoming more and more painful and barely a break in between. I started feeling like I had to push but when they checked me they noticed the baby was extremely low, but I was only 7. I think the worst part of the whole ordeal was trying not to push when that was all my body wanted to do.
At this point I honestly don't know what time it was. The anesthesiologist was finally able to come in and give me an epidural. When he came in it was like everyone was there! With Everett all that was there was me, Todd, Dr. Meredith, and a nurse. This time we had 2 nurses, Dr. Meredith, the anesthesiologist, and then the two of us. Todd had taken my glasses off so i couldn't see much, but it was like everyone was going everywhere just getting everything ready. After a few minutes we got the epidural in and he had me lay on my back. The minute I laid down my back was killing me. I got nervous cause I thought it was from the epidural. I started telling them and then all I can remember was telling them I had to push they told me to wait, but I couldn't! Then Dr. Meredith said ok and the next second I knew she was here! If I had known it was going to happen that fast I would have put the dang epidural off! I had already held off for so long I could have lasted an extra 2 minutes! Especially since it hadn't even taken effect yet. But oh well. We were just excited that she was here and she was healthy.
Todd went and watched as they did all their stuff with her. All I can remember now is that I laid down remembered the Mavs game was on (we were waiting for it to start before all the ciaos happened!) and then asked Dr. Meredith "who are you rooting for?" . He then informs me the Heat I looked at him and said "oh no". Todd started laughing and was like she's a huge Mavs fan. So Dr. Meredith and I had a little talk about why he liked the Heat. Not your typical after birth conversation, but it took my mind off everything!
Jacquelyn has been nothing but a sweet spirit in our home. She, for the most part, is pretty content. She loves to eat and is so much easier in that department then Everett was. We're still trying to figure out her sleeping schedule at night, but are slowly starting to learn what she likes and needs. Everett is slowly starting to warm up to her. When he first saw her at the hospital he wanted nothing to do with situation. Todd put her on his lap and within a few seconds he said done and wanted her off. Now he'll go up and rub on her head. We'll ask if he wants to give her a kiss and he'll just put his cheek up to her, but at least it's an improvement!
We're so grateful that she is here and everything went great. Now we're just enjoying every moment!
